Sports information technology profile: Jos? Manuel Pe?a Arroyo, Real Madrid FC
REAL MADRID IT Manager José Manuel Peña Arroyo runs a tight ship for the Spanish soccer team. How does he do it? According to Arroyo, meeting the demands of a world-class soccer organization requires understanding the business needs. “(My) two passions merge – sport and technology, so that makes it very easy working in this club.”
As a Telecommunications Engineer, Arroyo began his career as a technological consultant for 3 years before to joining the world of professional sports in 1999 as IT Manager for Real Madrid. With a results-oriented discipline, Arroyo applies his vision to the business operations, innovation. Managing the operation of the club in technology and many special projects, some of our Real Madrid’s main responsibilities include the selection of different technologies and business partners.
The information technology division of Real Madrid has come a long way since Arroyo joined the team over 2 decades ago. “In 1999 when I joined, we were two people who initiated a project with the other areas of the club, with a clear vision, a plan of modernizing the organization at all levels. Technologically (there was) only one server, and a few computers in a network, we could say there were no IT department. We currently have about 25 people in the department, which can give you an idea of evolution we have had over the years. We are in charge of security, communications, software engineering, audiovisuals, helps desk systems, administration systems, etc.”
Arroyo has overseen many technological advancements in his time at Real Madrid, two of which were to advance both the spectator experience as well as the club’s online presence. “The access control system at the stadium is a system that was completely innovative and that remains a reference for many clubs, and organizations worldwide to visit us often. In 2009 we hosted the UEFA Champions League Final, and it was a total success, we received official recognition from UEFA. Furthermore, all development in the online world since the beginning in 2000 with the creation of the first site on the Internet, to nowadays with the emergence of social networks, is another of the most significant examples of technological advancements.”
The Real Madrid IT division are continuously advancing the club to the forefront of sports technology and other sports organizations. “In relation to the activity at the stadium, no doubt the converged network architecture we have in the stadium, we can have many services running on the network with total reliability and security, this allows us to offer the best sports experience to our viewers in the safest way.” explains Arroyo. “Control access with biometrics built in the turnstile…”

The ?Condado de Haza? Returns to the Wine Cellar of Iberia
The “Condado de Haza” Returns to the Wine Cellar of Iberia
Madrid, Spain (PRWEB) November 17, 2010
Iberia, along with Todovino, is recreating the wine menu offered to the clients of the business class of international flights, the Business Plus. From November to January the company will serve once again the wine “Condado de Haza”. The vintage 2006 of this wine that Iberia served aboard the aircraft last year, received the first “Wines of the Wing”, and was considered to be the best wine in Business classes in the world by the prestigious north American magazine “Global Traveller”. As the vintage 2006 is out of stock, the clients of Iberia will have the chance to enjoy the one of 2007.
The wine menu of the Business Plus of Iberia for this quarter includes three authentic heavy weights among the red wines with regard to their region of offer. The three brands were pioneers at their time of a very concrete style: Jean León, en Penedés, the first Spanish cabernet; Conde de Valdemar en Rioja, one of the wines that modernized the attitude towards wine in this region as it adds more fruits and structure; Condado de Haza, en Ribera del Duero, a manor wine which is left to settle in the barrel, as its creator, Alejandro Fernández, considered necessary.
The clients of Iberia, the leader of “vuelos baratos”, do not only enjoy these wines aboard the Iberia aeroplanes and in the VIP saloons of the company in the T4, but they also have a cellar master that informs them personally about the characteristics of each wine. The magazine “Ronda Iberia”, included their own wine menu, and “Canal Ronda” also offer much information about the chosen brands.

What a Luxury Real Estate Buyer Wants – Madrid
What a Luxury Real Estate Buyer Wants – Madrid
(PRWEB) October 23, 2004
Luxury real estate buyers give their preferences to antique buildings in Madrid’s downtown. However, like in Paris, they admit that old properties have some disadvantages about them. Very few of the restored houses offer concierge services that are mostly provided for security reasons rather than fulfilling other duties.
Many wealthy customers of Madrid’s luxury real estate market are buying properties of certain historic periods and they restore them in accordance with their demands. Moreover, foreign buyers seldom refer to restoration specialists.
When buying restored luxury real estate in Madrid, people expect the properties to have convenient location in downtown areas or good transport access. They also appreciate high-quality interior decoration of marble and granite. Like in London and Paris, they prefer places with a parking lot. However, may of the buyers are ready to compromise with it. Even some newly-built properties have parking facilities, as the local government rarely give a spur to private transport, Barbara Dorado, the manager of Knight Frank Company in Madrid, assured.
Nowadays they are erecting a number of residential buildings that will comply with international de luxe real estate requirements. Nevertheless, it’s still hard to find residential real estate with gyms and pools in Spain’s capital.

Madrid and its surroundings, a great idea for a break
Many visitors of Madrid limit themselves to the city centre on their stay in this fantastic city, but not many know there are some really diverse attractions just on the outside of Madrid and its surroundings, available for and appealing to the whole family.
Why not combine your stay in a serviced, furnished apartment in the centre of Madrid, with outdoor activities in the mountains around Madrid, well known as ‘La Sierra Madrileña’? You can practice walking, along routes of all levels of difficulty, mountain biking and for the more daring among us, rafting or abseiling. At less than 45 minutes drive you find yourself in the most attractive and picturesque surroundings, that could come straight from a photo guide.
Take a trip for example to Segovia, located at just one hour’s drive, to view the aqueduct, built by the Romans, the Alcazar or fortress used as a base by the kings of Spain to conquer the Moors or enjoy a typical meal of roast lamb in one of the many restaurants, decorated in the Castilian style. Very close to Segovia you can find the small town of Pedraza, which has not changed since the middle ages. Strolling through its quiet cobbled streets, you can easily imagine knights coming round the corner on their way back from the battle fields any moment!
In the summer months, a great option, especially with young children is to take the Strawberry Train to Aranjuez. This wooden train, original from the 20′s takes you to n the south of Madrid, and during the ride you are offered the typical fruit from this region; strawberries. The trip takes about 1,5 hours and takes you through the Madrid community to one of the most interesting places to visit, the city of Aranjuez, declared Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO. It was founded in the 16th century as a place where the court would go and relax in the summer months, and the Royal Palace is definitely worth a visit.
The advantages of staying in an apartment as opposed to a hotel stay are many, from the space you enjoy to store your sports equipment, to the possibility of cooking your own meals in the well equipped kitchen after a long day of excursions without dressing up, up to the option of enjoying an multi-bedroom apartment with the whole family. Our furnished luxury apartments are located at strategic locations within Madrid and have parking available nearby, so you can easily enjoy the surroundings of the city.

Is Jose Mourinho good for Real Madrid?
Jose Mourinho or the ‘Special one’ is certainly special in more ways than one, much was expected of the manager when he took over Real Madrid, he had a very fine season with Inter the season before, he won the sensational treble with the Italian club, players like Materazzi cried and hugged the manager to bid adieu to the special one, this goes to show that that manager takes no time to establish a bond with the players which is great. Every great manager has complete control over the dressing room and Mourinho is one manager who certainly succeeds in doing so.
Mourinho is very passionate about what he does, there are very fine examples of the same, after the first leg against Barcelona the manager was restricted from sitting in his dugout and later handed a five match ban, this again goes to show that he is very passionate and wants to win all the time.
He won Madrid the Copa del Rey title in his first season which is quite an achievement considering the fact that the team defeated Barcelona in the final, many consider Barcelona as the best team in the world. The right mixture of youth and experience is very important and under Mourinho many youngsters have made their debut, this again goes to show that the manager wants young players to play for the first team. He was instrumental in the signings of Ricardo Carvalho and Mesut Ozil from Chelsea and Werder Bremen respectively and both players had a very impressive season, Ozil was instrumental in creating several goals and Ricardo Carvalho’s defending ability was a very big boon for the club, this goes to show that the manager knows what players to sign, he is sagacious and knows how to hold the team together and get the best out of them.
Mourinho got his tactics wrong against Barcelona in the first EL CLASICO of the season, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 5-0 at the Nuo Camp, the team also failed to perform consistently throughout the season as a result of which Barcelona won the La Liga, after the first leg defeat Mourinho changed his tactics and defeated Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, the team played well against Barcelona in the Champions League also but the sending off of Pepe changed the whole complexion of the tie, this goes to show that the manager learns from his mistakes and does not repeat the same mistakes over and over again like few other managers.
The track record of the manager speaks for itself; he has won at least one trophy in a year with every club that he has managed to date. He won the Champions League with FC Porto; he won the Champions League again with Inter Milan. His home record also speaks for itself; he has the most enviable home record. Is he good for Real Madrid? Yes, he is certainly good for the club; he has a lot to prove to fans and he will do it in the seasons to come.

PROINSO Goes Beyond 1 GW in the Supply of Modules and Inverters Around the World
PROINSO Goes Beyond 1 GW in the Supply of Modules and Inverters Around the World
(PRWEB) October 11, 2011
PROINSO, a company specialising in the supply of modules, inverters, trackers and fixed structures of roof and ground mounted photovoltaic installations, has hit the record high of 1,000 MW supplying modules and inverters for PV solar installations around the world. This was accomplished after supplying 1.41 MW in Trina modules and inverters for a Wintersun roof installation in Madrid, Spain.
The record amount strengthens PROINSO’s leading position in the sector, with 1 GW supplied, products in all five continents, an International Network of Qualified Installers with 1,743 members around the world, and facilities in Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy, the USA, Great Britain, France, Canada, China, and the Czech Republic.
From January to September 2011, PROINSO supplied 197.75 MW –126.47 MW in SMA inverters and 71.28 MW in REC, Trina, and Canadian Solar modules. To this we should add all the modules and inverters delivered since 2005: 654 MW in inverters and 355 MW in module. Total: 1009.75 MW.
This accomplishment was possible thanks to PROINSO’s powerful International Network of Qualified Installers, launched two years ago. The network’s 1,743 members have actively contributed to increase sales. Since it was launched, the network has grown at a spectacular rate in terms of both the number of installers and the services provided by PROINSO.
The countries with the largest numbers of Qualified Installers belonging to the PROINSO network are Italy (676), the USA (316), Spain (170), Germany (163), Greece (141), France (78), and Great Britain (32). In order to qualify to become a member of the PROINSO network, companies must have at least three years’ experience in the sector and a team of engineers and installers capable of designing and carrying out solar projects.
The network has also reached Austria, Belgium, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Ecuador, Guyana, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Portugal, Puerto Rico, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, and Ukraine. In all these countries PROINSO is now supplying materials.
Among other benefits, Qualified Installers can rely on the PROINSO professional team, including engineers and legal advisors, who can answer their questions or respond to their needs. In addition, they get training on new releases and have access to all PROINSO products in stock. Qualified Installers do not have to buy PROINSO’s modules, inverters, trackers, or fixed structures. “This gives them freedom to optimise results and enhance competitiveness,” PROINSO sources explain.
PROINSO INTERNATIONAL TRAINING SCHOOL
Since it first launched its International Network of Qualified Installers, PROINSO has made every effort to provide value-added services to network members. The PROINSO SOLAR TRAINING SCHOOL, for instance, is an innovative international training programme for installers of solar PV energy supported by cooperation agreements with leading and experienced PV energy training centres in Italy (ICIM), England (EcoSkies), Greece (OIKONOMOTEXNIKH), France (Lycée des Métiers Eugène Montel), Canada (Canadian Solar Institute – CSI), the USA (Solar Energy International – SEI), and Spain (CEFOIM).
PROINSO works with these centres in the development of training programmes and contents for PV installers, contributing specialised technical materials from the best brands (Trina Solar, SMA, MECASOLAR, REC, Canadian Solar, and others). The training provided at the centres PROINSO cooperates with is specialised and official, in accordance with the regulations in force in each country. It has been designed to meet professional needs in the sector.
The PROINSO Solar Training School also includes seminars, conferences and workshops organised with the leading manufacturers in various countries. In these events, training is offered by professionals from PROINSO, manufacturing companies, or the members of the International Network of Qualified Installers, who introduce the latest developments and new technologies.
SIGMA SOLAR is a new online tool for Qualified Installers to create custom catalogues based on manufacturers’ datasheets. Finally, in Italy, a loyalty programme –PROINSO PLUS– has been launched. These are some of the additional services offered to Qualified Installers in PROINSO’s International Network. The company is planning to extend the network to new markets in 2012.//
Corporate Information: PROINSO http://www.proinso.net
PROINSO specialises in the supply of modules, inverters, fixed structures, and trackers for PV solar installations. It has signed distribution contracts with TRINA SOLAR, CANADIAN SOLAR, and REC for modules, and with SMA for inverters. In addition, it is the retailer of MECASOLAR’s trackers and fixed structures. PROINSO is TRINA’s leading module distributor at a global level and SMA’s global inverter retailer.

Hidden Tunnels in Madrid, the Secret Underground World
As a child I had the priviledge to spend the first years of my life in Madrid and study in an old traditional school run my nuns since the early 1900s. That school which five minutes walking distance to the Royal Palace in Madrid, right in the city center is still up and running pretty much in the same way from decades. During the lunch break, we used to tell each other ghost tales that made the 2-hour break much more bearable.
From all those stories, I remember in special a day when one of the teachers came and sat down with a group of roughly ten girls, telling us how the school used to be a hospital in war times and the used to hide from bomb attacks on secret tunnels right underneath the school. Apparently those tunnels served not only as refuge from air raids during the Spanish Civil War but also served as an enourmous gallery that connected key places within the Old Town, for instance, the Plaza Mayor, the Palace, the Town Hall, the Hospital, etc.
The network of interconnected landmarks allowed some priviledge people with knowledge of its existence to move freely without the fear of being caught, and more importantly, move people and goods undetected. Obviously, I did cuestion many times the veracity of this tale, as it seemed to my quite rare that this story was in fact not of public domain, but merely a rare comment from a nun that usually never walked out of the boundaries of the school-convent building.
]]>
To my surprise, this story came out to be absolutely true. Madrid was named after the arabic word ‘Madjrit’ which means ‘place where there are tunnels’. Therefore the secret tunnels that interconnect the whole city centre of Madrid were real and existed before the muslim occupation, around the 11th century. The islamic legacy was specially rich in terms of knowledge of water distribution and supply. It is thougt that the tunnels were in fact designed to keep a permanent reservoir of water, saving it away from the sun and therefore eluding evaporation.
As the arab ocupation where forced out of Madrid and ultimately out of Spain, their systems where left in disuse and many people just forgot about its existence, until diffult times, in particular the Civil War stroke the city. The citizens of Madrid refer to their city as a Gruyere cheese, because of its many wholes underneath the surface, and seems like there could be more than initially thought.
When the city is hosted high profile meetings and events such as official visits from foreing prime ministers, security is obviously high not only on the visible city but also in Madrid underground tunnels. But there are many other cities with the same secret tunnels, for instance Lyon, Paris, Seville or Rome, just to name a few. Some places have organized visits to the hidden tunnels such as the Vatican, other will never be seen by the public, others will only be visited if you talk with the locals and do some research. Staying at privately owned apartments is a good way to interact with locals, whether you want to find apartments in Madrid, rentals in Paris, houses in Seville there will be a hidden tunnel underneath waiting for you to discover.
